The Surfrider Beach Hotel is a boutique coastal retreat that embodies laid-back luxury, offering breathtaking ocean views and a deep connection to Malibu’s renowned surf culture. The hotel sought a complete redesign of its website to elevate its digital presence, enhance the user experience, and align seamlessly with its established brand identity.
I was responsible for designing and redeveloping the website, ensuring an intuitive, visually compelling, and highly customized online experience that reflected the hotel’s unique aesthetic. The primary goals were to improve navigation, create an engaging user journey, and provide a seamless booking process.

Research & Strategy
The design process began with wireframes provided by the client, which served as a foundation for the layout and structure. I built and prototyped the initial homepage in Figma, focusing on a visually immersive and dynamic experience. The client leaned toward highly stylized pages, which led to multiple rounds of revisions to fine-tune the aesthetic.
Through iterative feedback and collaboration, we refined the design to meet the client’s vision, balancing creativity with usability. While the process extended beyond the initial timeline due to in-depth customization, it ultimately resulted in a homepage that set the tone for the entire site.
User Experience & Design Process
To establish a strong design direction, I conducted extensive research on competitors and luxury boutique hotels with a similar aesthetic. Collaborating closely with the client, we curated a list of reference websites that embodied the high-end, custom-branded experience they envisioned.
One of the key insights from this research phase was the client’s desire for each page to feel bespoke rather than templated—a significant departure from their previous minimalistic website. This guided the approach to design, ensuring that each page carried a distinct, stylized feel while maintaining brand cohesion.

With the homepage approved, we quickly moved on to designing the remaining 11 bringing the website to life as a fully interactive platform.
The final design elevated the hotel’s digital presence, creating a refined and intuitive user experience. The new site improved navigation, increased engagement, and streamlined the booking process while reinforcing the brand’s luxury identity.
